The Pollution Emission Investigation and Model Establishment For Toxic Chemical Substances Project-Particular Pollution Sources

In this research, we investigated the environmental fate of the three toxic chemical compounds in the factory field, including toluene diisocyanate, N,N-dimethylformamide, and 1,2- dichloroethane. We finished the sampling and analysis work of 257 samples, including 106 ambient air samples, 71 urine samples, 32 water samples, and 38 soil samples, in six plants which manufactured or used these toxic chemicals in Taiwan. The analysis results showed that TDI、EDC concentration of the ambient air, personal exposure, water and soil samples in and around the plants were all under the standards. Therefore, the environment will not be harmed under the correct, normal operating. The result of the risk assessment showed that inhalation was the most important exposure pathways. For exposure staff, the cancer risk of TDI plant was between 1.48×10-6~5.92×10-5,the hazard index of DMF plant was between 0.02~49.67, and the cancer risk of EDC plant was between 6.41×10-7~2.47×10-5. For surrounding population, the cancer risk of TDI plant was between 3.81×10-7~1.93×10-6,the hazard index of DMF plant was between 0.02~0.73, and the cancer risk of EDC plant was between 2.60×10-8~7.17×10-6,All the values were below 1×10-6, and none of the calculated hazard index calculated exceeded 1. We got 56 reaches about the three chemical compounds, through the collection and the analysis of survey report sponsored by research institutes and governmental institutes in the past ten years in Taiwan, combining with the data of spatial and temporal distributions. The concentration and allocation profile in various environmental media and humans were elucidated for these toxic chemicals.
